The Protagonist Juno Pixie Xena

The Protagonist

A human male from an underdeveloped planet, prophesized by his village to save them in their darkest hour. In an attempt to escape his fate, he meets Juno, and becomes her travelling companion on a journey to save his entire solar system.

  • The Chosen One: The male protagonist was raised as though God had chosen him to save their village when he grew up, treated so specially that other people born on the same day as him have to celebrate their own birthdays the next day. The protagonist himself doesn't buy into the hype, mainly because he also wasn't permitted to leave the village, follow his own schedule, or otherwise endanger himself because the villagers didn't want him to die before the ambiguous, potentially nonexistent threat arrived.
  • Gilded Cage: He was raised in one, given special treatment by his village but only because he'll be forced to fulfill the potentially deadly role of The Chosen One when he becomes of age, and unable to leave the village or make any meaningful interpersonal connections to the point that his only "friend" is his personal guard.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The male protagonist, whose viewpoint the stories are told from, has no default name, and the player must type a name in at the story's beginning.
  • It's All My Fault: When the male protagonist returns to his village after The Plague hits it and sees that nearly everyone's dead and his mother is struggling to stay alive, he immediately blames himself, since he had ignored the prophecy in favor of personal freedom and tragedy had indeed struck in his absence. His mother, in her final moments, tells him that the villagers were the wrong ones; the disaster wouldn't have been preventable even if he had stayed, and she's glad he's able to live instead of dying pointlessly like the rest of them.
  • Last of Their Kind: He ends up not only being the sole survivor of their village, but the sole survivor of their planet, after the plague ends all other life from it.
  • The Runaway: The main protagonist was raised as The Chosen One, but grew sick of how he was being treated. The story starts with him coming of age, angering the entire village by complaining about his Gilded Cage and questioning if their God's even real, and then running away before he has to face the repercussions. Having never dealt with physical hardship before, he nearly dies in a forest before encountering Juno.
  • Survivor Guilt: When his entire village succumbs to the plague, his immediate reaction is to bemoan what a horrible Chosen One he was, having abandoned them to stay safe with Juno instead of trying to warn them or helping to ward off berserk animals spreading the disease. In the sequel, years later, he's still having nightmares of everyone dying.

Juno

Her updated chassis for My Furry Protogen 2

A Protogen biologist from beyond the stars, who claims to be studying the flora and fauna of the protagonist's planet for scientific purposes. In truth, she's looking for symptoms of a dangerous, intergalactic problem, and is on a journey to end it once and for all.

  • Higher-Tech Species: The Protogen are a genetically engineered alien race, while the male protagonist comes from a tribal community with no knowledge of things like spaceships.
  • Translator Microbes: The first time Juno tries communicating with the protagonist, she speaks in different unintelligible tones before adjusting her helmet, activating its translation function and allowing her to talk perfectly in the protagonist's language.
  • Wingding Eyes: Juno's helmet displays a digital version of her face, allowing her to add a teardrop under her eye when she's sad or completely change her eye into a question mark or heart when she's respectively confused or enamored.
  • You Are Number 6: Her actual name/serial number is NV-0903, but she goes with "Juno" because it's easier for people like the native protagonist to pronounce.

Pixie

The artificial intelligence of Juno's spaceship. It has some personality, but not enough to replace companionship with another living being.

  • Benevolent A.I.: Pixie is treated by Juno as a travelling companion while on her adventures, and tries its best to fulfill the desires of her and the protagonist, even when they're doing something potentially dangerous like a Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: In My Furry Protogen 2, Pixie is stated to switch between masculine and feminine voices at times, with Juno having told the protagonist during the Time Skip that they don't have a set gender.

Xena

My Furry Protogen - TV Tropes (2)

Juno's honorary sister.

  • Ascended Extra: From a supporting character in My Furry Protogen 2 to the titular love interest of My Protogen Engineer.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Protogen are genetically engineered instead of born and thus she and Juno are not related in the traditional sense, but they were developed in the same batch and grew up together, so Juno thinks of her as an honorary sibling even though they now tend to live separate lives.
